Magnesium is the lightest structural metal available a combination of low density and good mechanical strength, resulting in a high strength-to-weight ratio. Magnesium components are generally used in applications from room temperature to about 200 degrees F. Certain magnesium alloys can be used for short durations to about 700 degrees F.
Magnesium is easy to machine and is easy to fabricate by most machining methods. It is easy to weld and can be easily forged.
Magnesium is used today in aerospace and aircraft applications, as well as passenger cars, light weight truck components, automotive trim, automotive under-the-hood components, and camera casings.
